Hi!
This post will be about 4th grade Mathematics topic "Position and Movement". It is an introduction to Coordinate System and we mainly focused on the terms like "axis, ordered pair, clockwise, anti-clockwise, full-turn, half-turn and quarter-turn". At the beginning of the lesson, we discussed about where we use directions, why we need specific words, why are we calling "ordered pair"? what is the order? and so on. After mentioning about the ordered pair, we played BATTLESHIP game to practice the idea of ordering horizontal data first and the vertical data as a second. The game allows students to say the coordination of each ship, so they need to remember which data should be said first.
Also I brang the chess board to help them see the x-axis and y-axis by using their chess knowledge.
